What Medical Weight Loss Actually Is

Medical weight loss is a clinical approach to weight management, overseen by a physician. Instead of handing you a meal plan and hoping for the best, we evaluate your metabolism, body composition, labs, and health history — then build a plan around what your body actually needs. That plan may include FDA-approved GLP-1 medications such as semaglutide or tirzepatide when clinically appropriate, supportive peptide therapies, nutrition guidance, and ongoing monitoring. Every patient is different, and not everyone is a candidate for medication. That's exactly why physician supervision matters. What it is not: a guarantee of a specific result, a one-size-fits-all injection program, or a substitute for the fundamentals — sleep, protein, strength, and consistency still do the heavy lifting.

How the Ola Program Works

Our signature path is a structured 12-week medical weight-loss program with three levels of support (Good / Better / Best), so you can choose the intensity that fits your goals and your life. Plans start as low as $199 per month. Every level includes: Physician evaluation — candidacy review, labs, and a plan built around your health history. Body-composition tracking — we measure what matters: fat mass, muscle mass, visceral fat, and water, not just the number on the scale. Medication management — dosing, titration, and side-effect support overseen by our clinical team. Ongoing check-ins — because the plan that works in week 2 needs adjusting by week 8. Hundreds of women helped across Hawaii — and a 5-star rating across 45+ Google reviews.

Medications and Therapies We Use

All medications and peptides are prescribed only after physician evaluation, and only when clinically appropriate. GLP-1 medications — semaglutide and tirzepatide are FDA-approved for chronic weight management in qualifying adults. When prescribed, dosing starts low and titrates gradually, with monitoring throughout. Supportive peptides — as part of a supervised plan, we may incorporate peptides including BPC-157, TB-500, CJC-1295 with ipamorelin or sermorelin, GHK-Cu, and AOD-9604, selected based on your goals and clinical picture. Evidence for some of these compounds is more limited than for approved GLP-1 medications — we'll be straightforward about what the science does and doesn't show. What we don't offer: Botox, fillers, laser treatments, dermatology, or red-light therapy. We stay in our lane — metabolic health, body composition, and physician-supervised weight loss.

We Measure What Matters

Most programs track one number: your weight. We track the numbers that tell the real story. At every visit, our clinical body-composition analysis measures body fat mass, skeletal muscle mass, visceral fat area, body water, and more — so we can see whether you're losing fat or losing muscle, and adjust your plan accordingly. Protecting muscle during weight loss is one of the most important (and most ignored) parts of doing this well.

Who It's For — and Who It's Not For

A good fit if you: have struggled to lose weight with diet and exercise alone; want a physician involved in your weight-loss decisions; care about keeping muscle while losing fat; are ready for a structured, monitored program — not a quick fix. It may not be right if you: are looking for a guaranteed number of pounds by a specific date — we don't promise outcomes; have certain medical conditions or take medications that contraindicate GLP-1 therapy (we screen for this); are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning pregnancy; want cosmetic injectables or skin treatments — that's not what we do.

Serving Patients Across Hawaii

Ola Big Island Wellness Clinic is based on the Big Island of Hawaii, and our medical weight-loss program serves patients across the entire state — with virtual consultations available statewide.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does medical weight loss cost in Hawaii?

Our structured 12-week program comes in three levels of support, with plans starting as low as $199 per month. Book a consultation for current pricing on each level.

Do I have to take medication to do the program?

No. Medication is prescribed only when clinically appropriate and only with your informed consent. Some patients do the program with nutrition, tracking, and peptide support alone.

How fast will I see results?

Everyone's body responds differently, and we don't guarantee specific outcomes or timelines. What we do guarantee is close monitoring — we'll see what's happening in your body composition and adjust.

What's the difference between semaglutide and tirzepatide?

Both are GLP-1–based medications FDA-approved for chronic weight management; tirzepatide also acts on GIP receptors. Your physician will discuss which, if either, fits your clinical picture.

Will I regain the weight if I stop?

Weight regain after stopping GLP-1 medications is well documented in clinical trials, which is why our program emphasizes the habits and muscle protection that support long-term maintenance — and why ongoing follow-up matters.

Do you treat patients outside the Big Island?

Yes — our medical weight-loss program serves patients across Hawaii, with virtual consultations available statewide.

Is this the same as the shots I see advertised online?

No. Online "compounded" or gray-market products are not the same as physician-prescribed, pharmacy-dispensed medication with clinical monitoring. We don't cut those corners.
